• Mock Trial is a high school competition run by the New York State Bar Association (NYSBA).  Students on the MHS Mock Trial Team compete by becoming attorneys and witnesses and bringing a legal case, created by the NYSBA, to trial.

The Mock Trial season begins after Thanksgiving and ends in the spring. Students read, analyze, research, prepare and ultimately present the case before a judge.  Students learn to conduct direct and cross examinations, make and respond to objections, give opening statements, make closing arguments, and testify.

No prior experience is necessary.  The team practices two nights each week, usually Tuesdays (6-8pm) and Fridays (6:30-8:30pm).  Trials take place on Mondays at 4:00pm after school.  Preliminary trials take place at Marist College. Competition trials take place at local high schools.  Sometimes a practice or a trial may be held at a local courthouse. MHS hosts one of the competition rounds at home.
